Presenters
Matthew McGoldrick
Matthew is a Partner with specialist employment law firm, SBM Legal. Matt was admitted in 2006 and joined SBM Legal in October 2012 on his return from overseas. Prior to joining SBM Legal Matthew was employed as a solicitor in the Wellington employment law practice of a national law firm, and in the employment law practice of the Wellington Crown Solicitor’s office. He also spent time practising employment law in the United Kingdom before returning to New Zealand. Matthew has regularly represented employers and employees in mediation and before the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, District Court and in the High Court. He is regularly called upon to provide advice on varied matters such as restructuring and redundancy, disciplinary matters, termination of employment and health and safety.
Gillian Service
A core aspect of Gillian’s practice is the interaction between legal frameworks and the workplace. Her clients comprise some of New Zealand’s leading companies and their boards of directors. She advises on union issues and collective bargaining across many sectors including transport, oil and gas, retail, health and aged care, public services, financial services, and customer services. A seasoned litigator, Gillian regularly represents her clients throughout the mediation process and at all levels of the court system. Gillian is curious about the changing ways of working, the interface with technology, and what the law needs to do to keep up. She is a 4 Day Week Global Ambassador and a Trustee of The Warehouse Group’s New Zealand Future Work Skills Fund (a trust set up by to expand the skill sets of workers into different areas including the digital economy).
Angela Evans
Angela is a Partner at BE Employment Law, a specialist employment law firm. In addition to her employment law expertise, Angela has a commercial litigation background, has appeared in the Authority and in most courts where employment issues are heard and is keen on the strategic and advocacy aspects of employment law.
Kirsty McDonald
As an employment and health and safety partner based in our Auckland office, Kirsty focuses on providing strategic and pragmatic advice to clients. She covers the breadth of employment-related issues for clients across all industries, such as redundancies and restructuring, disciplinary and performance matters, personal grievances, industrial relations, restraints of trade, protection of confidential information, workplace investigations and the employment aspects arising from commercial transactions. Kirsty is an experienced advocate, representing clients in the Employment Relations Authority, the Employment Court and the District Court. She is also heavily involved in the health and safety space regularly acting for clients facing prosecution.
Amanda Douglas
Amanda Douglas leads the Employment and Health and Safety practice at Wynn Williams. She acts on the full range of Employment Law matters, with a particular focus in the dispute resolution area.
