11.30am to 12.15pm: Preparing for Privacy Law Reform
Daimhin Warner will provide an update to his 2018 presentation on privacy law reform in NZ, with a particular focus on education. The Privacy Bill, which has now been through the Justice Select Committee process, will introduce mandatory privacy breach notification and more enforcement powers for the Privacy Commissioner. But the Select Committee has introduced other changes that will create new obligations on schools to more carefully manage student information. We now know what the new Privacy Act will contain, and what we need to do to prepare for it.

Workshop: Conducting a Successful Workplace Investigation
If you’ve spent any time working in a school you know that seemingly anything can happen at any time and you need to know exactly how to handle an incident from when it first occurs all the way through the investigation process. Attend this seminar and consider the policies and procedures you need to have in place before an incident occurs and then work through the step by step process of completing an effective and comprehensive investigation. The panel will provide valuable insights on managing your school and the staff from the beginning of a workplace investigation to the end, making this a vital programme that is not to be missed.
