Lawyers working in the Family Court need to be able to draft memoranda for judges to read and letters to their clients/counsel, and draft affidavits on behalf of their clients, to explain the legal process and possible outcomes of hearing in the Family Court. Each of these tasks require lawyers to write clearly and in a way that the intended reader can understand. The presentation/webinar will consider:
- Techniques that can be used to improve letter writing and document drafting
- Different writing styles for different readers
- Words and phrases to be avoided

David Amodeo
David is a barrister who specialises and practises in all areas of relationship and family law, and has done so for over a quarter of a century. David represents a wide variety of clients, including individuals, families and organisations in situations and proceedings across the wide diversity of situations involving people and property that are encompassed within the relevant jurisdictions. Throughout his time in practise David has presented many seminars to lawyers and other professionals working within the area and continues his involvement in a variety of roles within professional associations working in Aotearoa.
Minka Boddé-Phillips
Minka is the Principal of Phillips & Co Law, Rotorua, a predominantly Family Law practise. While starting out as a general litigation Solicitor, following 8 years away from law raising her own four children, she returned to specialise in Family Law in 2009. Minka represents both parties and children in the Family Court while providing Mediation privately and through Family Dispute Resolution. She is committed to assisting clients, children and their families to move through the separation process with the least amount of trauma and damage possible, while ensuring safe outcomes for children. With extensive relevant experience both personally and professionally, Minka dreams of a Family Court system that assists families in maintaining a level of relatedness and co-operation that supports and educates both children and adults to deal with the fracture of their family in an holistic and empowering way.
Ben Snedden
Ben has over 20 years of experience in all areas of family law including international work. He is equally able in diverse cases from high net worth relationship property cases to care and contact disputes about children. Ben is friendly and approachable. In 2022 Ben completed the Advanced International Advocacy Course at Keble College, Oxford. The course is the most demanding and intensive of any advocacy course in the UK. Ben is a qualified solicitor advocate in England meaning he can appear at all court levels in England and Wales.
Jo Naidoo
Jo is a Partner in the firm’s Family Law team and has a focus on providing practical advice to clients in matters relating to parenting and relationship property. Jo’s expertise allows her to work across a range of family law areas, such as providing advice about care arrangements for clients, considering clients’ needs to protect their assets while in a relationship and advising about the division of assets on separation. Jo is on the Lawyer for Child list and is appointed by the Family Court to act for children in the Family Court.
