Presenters
Kate Chivers
Kate is Principal at Turner Hopkins. She initially worked in enforcement, starting at the Metropolitan Police in London, rising to the rank of detective within Lewisham Borough CID. When Kate moved to New Zealand in 2003, she joined NZ Police, and it was while fulfilling her full-time role as sergeant, that she completed her studies as an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) with the University of Auckland. In 2018, Kate was appointed as a senior solicitor for a large corporate law firm twice named "New Zealand Law Firm of the Year", where she represented not just smaller businesses and private individuals but also a major NZ bank concerning its leasing matters as a tenant. She further advised other large clients on leasing, property matters and related financial transactions.
Julia Flattery
Julia is an experienced construction and commercial property lawyer who brings significant large-project build expertise during twelve years’ working for a leading UK international firm. Her particular areas of expertise are property acquisitions, sales and leasing, infrastructure, construction and developments.
Fiona Roydhouse
Fiona is an associate director in the tax team at EY specialising in the property sector. Fiona has over 12 years’ experience work in tax working in both New Zealand and the UK during this time. Mostly recently in New Zealand, Fiona has worked with a range of listed and unlisted property funds, as well as private businesses and individuals on all tax matters including large transactions, property acquisitions, lease negotiations and general matters including compliance.
Oliver Hobbs
Oliver joined Dentons Kensington Swan in 2020 after completing his Master of Laws at Victoria University of Wellington. He brings specialist experience in property and construction law. Oliver has a background in New Zealand and Australia working for government clients and blue chip companies. His expertise includes major real estate transactions, leasing deals, development agreements and construction contracts.
Chris LaHatte
Chris initially qualified as a lawyer some years ago and then began studying dispute resolution. Chris enrolled in the Masters program at Massey University for Dispute Resolution, and graduated with a dissertation on Judicial Settlement Conferences. Chris joined AMINZ as an associate and was encouraged to study for fellowship. He received the Fellowship Mediation Prize in 2008. The following year he obtained fellowship in arbitration and has presented some papers over the years reflecting an interest in issues such as conflict-of-interest and bias. In 2011 Chris became the ombudsman at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, (ICANN), which is the global body administering the domain name system. Since 2016 he has practiced as a barrister, mediator and arbitrator, and has several diverse interests, including FDR mediation, Domain name mediation, lease arbitration and construction adjudication.
