Presenters
Vanessa Evitt
Vanessa specialises in resource management, environmental and local government law. She has acted for a broad range of local authority, infrastructure and private clients on consenting and plan change processes and regularly represents clients at council hearings and before the Environment Court and High Court on resource consent and plan appeals. In addition to litigation and advisory work, Vanessa also has extensive experience advising clients on the environmental and planning aspects of property, banking and commercial transactions.
Helen Andrews
Helen Andrews is a Partner at Berry Simons and has specialised in Resource Management and Environment Law for over 18 years. Prior to joining Berry Simons, she worked in the resource management teams of two top-tier New Zealand law firms and another boutique environmental law firm. Helen has significant experience advising on and consenting major projects across several industries. These have ranged from energy, infrastructure and retailing developments to oil and gas exploration and minerals prospecting. Helen has been involved with a number of the Boards of Inquiry established under the RMA for the processing of projects of national significance. This has included representing the applicant before the Turitea Board, providing facilitation services to the New Zealand King Salmon and Ara Tūhono - Pūhoi to Warkworth Boards, acting as legal advisor to the MacKays and Basin Bridge Boards and representing a submitter before the East-West Link Board. Helen is currently involved in the consenting of several large-scale urban developments in both Auckland and Waikato. She has a keen interest in RMA reform and has co-authored three substantive articles on this topic for the Resource Management Journal.
Claire Hunter
Claire has worked in the environmental and resource management field for nearly two decades. During this time, Claire has been involved in some of New Zealand’s most significant infrastructure and industry projects. This includes the consenting associated with renewable energy projects such as the Wairau Hydro Scheme in Marlborough, Project Hayes wind farm in Central Otago, the Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm in Southland, Mokihinui Hydro proposal on the West Coast, and more recently, open cast and underground gold mining projects at Macraes in the Waitaki District and for gold mining sites on the West Coast. Claire currently works with key clients such as OceanaGold, Contact Energy and Wellington Airport, providing day-to-day resource management advice and assisting them with consenting on specific projects.
Nicki Williams
With extensive experience in local government and as a planning consultant Nicki's expertise lie in planning and resource management consenting and policy. She has worked alongside Council's and a range of developers to achieve planning projects. Her work in local government has spanned 20 years and included numerous resource consent applications relating to infrastructure projects and coastal subdivisions. Working with communities to deliver projects and development.
Katherine Forward
Katherine has extensive experience in all aspects of environmental and resource management law and supports rural and urban clients nationwide. She delivers commercially relevant and client focussed advice to environmental problems in any context – corporate transactions, development projects, day to day operations, planning/ policy, prosecution and climate change considerations. Recent work experience includes advising joint Council business units on community infrastructure projects, including wastewater management and disposal, representing primary sector industry groups on appeals to the Environment Court against the Southland Water and Land Plan, urban planning and residential rezoning in Canterbury, and environmental risk mitigation. Katherine is adept at building endurring client relationships and is used to working as part of a multi-discplinary team. She is a seasoned advocate in all jurisdictions. Katherine regularly writes articles, presents seminars, and provides tailored training to clients on a wide range of environmental issues.
