Joseph Biddles
Joe Biddles is a specialist commercial property and real estate lawyer and a director of boutique law firm Thompson Blackie Biddles. Prior to this Joe worked at Russell McVeagh and formerly was the New Zealand Legal Counsel of Lion. Joe acts for a number of corporate and institutional clients and his practice covers all areas of commercial property including acquisitions and disposals, commercial leasing, developments, joint ventures and overseas investments in New Zealand.
Ed Smithies
Ed is a property and construction lawyer with over 15 years’ experience in both New Zealand and the UK. Admitted in the UK in 2005 and New Zealand in 2018, Ed has a track record of advising domestic and overseas clients on significant real estate capital market transactions, commercial investments and developments across the real estate sector. Ed regularly advises clients on the negotiation of sale and purchase agreements, leases, development agreements and construction contracts. He also regularly assists overseas investors in managing the overseas investment approval process. Ed is a confident and trusted legal adviser and is known for his collaborative and solutions focused approach.
Kate Chivers
Kate is principal at Turner Hopkins. She initially worked in enforcement, starting at the Metropolitan Police in London, rising to the rank of detective within Lewisham Borough CID. When Kate moved to New Zealand in 2003, she joined NZ Police, and it was while fulfilling her full-time role as sergeant, that she completed her studies as an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) with the University of Auckland. In 2018, Kate was appointed as a senior solicitor for a large corporate law firm twice named "New Zealand Law Firm of the Year", where she represented not just smaller businesses and private individuals but also a major NZ bank concerning its leasing matters as a tenant. She further advised other large clients on leasing, property matters and related financial transactions.
Judith Bullin
Judith is Partner at Parry Field Lawyers, She enjoys advising on a wide range of matters in a timely and pragmatic manner, but specialises in subdivisions, right from advising on the acquisition of land through development to the sale process. Judith also regularly assists clients in relation to many other commercial matters including leasing, commercial property acquisitions, business acquisitions and commercial agreements. She provides private clients with guidance in relation to asset structuring, succession planning and trusts. Taking the time to understand a client and their business is important to Judith, as is helping clients find practical and effective solutions.
Arthur Chung
Arthur Chung is Director at Wynyard Wood and is an expert in property law. He is well known for his commercial pragmatism in advising and acting for clients on commercial property and construction transactions. He has extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial leases, particularly design-and- build solutions, sale and purchase agreements, development documentation, construction contracts and consultancy documents for commercial office, industrial and retail developments. Arthur also advises developers in relation to residential subdivision projects, including masterplanned developments. He has worked in Singapore with law firms Rajah & Tann and Jones Day.
