Presenters
Dr Alexandra Sims
Associate Professor Alex Sims is an Associate Professor in the Department of Commercial Law . She teaches a wide range of commercial law subjects. Her primary areas of research and publication are on blockchain technology including decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs), consumer law and intellectual property law (in particular copyright law). Alex is a special advisor to Parliament’s Finance & Expenditure Select Committee for its inquiry into cryptocurrencies.
Jeremy Muir
Jeremy heads the national Banking & Financial Services division at MinterEllisonRuddWatts. He specialises in funds, financial regulation, fintech and crypocurrency/blockchain innovation. In the cryptocurrency space, he acts for many of the key New Zealand industry participants and has recently been appointed as a special advisor to Parliament’s Finance & Expenditure Committee for their ongoing review of the area.
Laura Carter
Laura is a barrister specialising in commercial and intellectual property disputes. She has extensive experience advising on a wide range of IP issues, and acting on contentious trade mark, patent, copyright, Fair Trading Act and other consumer law disputes. She has regularly appeared before IPONZ, in the High Court, and in the Court of Appeal. Laura is a registered patent attorney (Australia and New Zealand).
Simon Akozu
Simon is a Tax Partner at MinterEllisonRuddWatts. His clients include leading New Zealand corporates, financial institutions, and high net worth individuals. His areas of focus include M&A, infrastructure projects, financing arrangements and crypto assets.
