Presenters
Anna Ryan
Anna specialises in corporate and commercial law and leads Lane Neave’s competition law team. She routinely advises on the Commerce Act, Fair Trading Act and all aspects of competition and consumer law. Anna is also the principal contact for Lane Neave’s intellectual property practice and acts on a wide range of trade mark, copyright and other intellectual property matters. Anna holds a Masters Degree from the University of Melbourne in Competition and Consumer Protection Law, and Chairs the Advisory Board of the Competition Law and Policy Institute of New Zealand. She also Chairs the Board of the Canterbury Society of Arts, which operates CoCA, Christchurch’s Contemporary Art Gallery.
Glenn Shewan
Glenn is a specialist competition, regulatory and overseas investment lawyer and has advised on some of New Zealand’s most significant competition law and Overseas Investment Office (OIO) matters in recent years. Glenn has practiced in a number of jurisdictions and has acted for leading corporate clients on major global transactions in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Europe. Glenn is part of Bell Gully’s competition and regulatory team, which has been ranked in Global Competition Review's GCR 100 as an elite practice (its highest ranking in New Zealand) for the past 16 years. He is both a director of the Competition Law and Policy Institute of New Zealand and a member of the OIO’s Legal Reference Group.
Troy Pilkington
Troy Pilkington is a partner in Russell McVeagh's Competition/Antitrust and Consumer Law team. Troy is one of New Zealand's best regarded competition, consumer, and regulatory lawyers – including being recognised as the exclusive 2019 International Law Office Client Choice Award winner for Competition/Antitrust in New Zealand. Troy advises clients on the full range of competition and consumer law issues, including merger control issues, joint venture advice, cartel investigations, market power investigations, Fair Trading Act issues (including advertising, labelling and marketing advice, and product recall matters), and Commerce Commission prosecutions and appeals. He is also on the advisory board of the Competition Law & Policy Institute of New Zealand.
Jennifer Hambleton
Jennifer Hambleton is a senior associate at MinterEllisonRuddWatts. She is a competition and regulatory compliance and risk specialist and general commercial litigator. Jennifer regularly advises clients on compliance with the Commerce Act and Fair Trading Act and the implications of commercial terms such as warranties and indemnities, termination and default rights, variation rights, restraints of trade and confidentiality. She has significant experience acting for defendant companies in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions. Jennifer returned to New Zealand in 2016 after almost 10 years in Australia where she worked in the competition teams at several leading Australian firms. She was recently recognised as Rising Star in competition law by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific and is a member of the advisory board of the Competition Law & Policy Institute of New Zealand.
