Bianca Miller
Bianca has 20 years experience in the legal profession. She commenced her legal career in private practice before moving in-house. She spent over 10 years at Telecom/Spark in the in-house legal team primary supporting the retail arms of the business before moving into a strategic commercial role within company. Following that Bianca moved to SHIFT and worked with a government owned infrastructure company for a few years. Bianca currently works for SHIFT and is on a long-term secondment to NX2 Northern Express Group as their sole in-house legal counsel.
Anton Trixl
Anton is a specialist in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He has extensive experience advising clients in those sectors on project development and project financings, construction, and M&A in over 30 countries. Prior to joining Anderson Lloyd in 2015, Anton was at Clifford Chance in Singapore and Dubai. Anton is a member of the Society of Construction Law New Zealand, NZ Wind Energy Association and Infrastructure New Zealand.
Bradley Aburn
Bradley Aburn is a senior associate in Russell McVeagh's Competition/Antitrust and Consumer Law team. Bradley advises clients on the full range of competition and consumer law issues, including merger control issues, joint venture advice, cartel investigations, market power investigations, market studies, Fair Trading Act issues, and Commerce Commission prosecutions and appeals. Bradley returned to Russell McVeagh in 2019 after over five years working at Slaughter and May in both its London and Brussels offices. Bradley is also the Auckland Vice President of the Law and Economics Association of New Zealand and a board member of the Competition Law & Policy Institute of New Zealand.
Charlotte Joy
Charlotte joined newly formed employment law firm, BE Employment Law, from a national full-service firm and has specialised in employment law since starting practice. She has represented employers and employees on a wide range of issues, both contentious and advisory. Charlotte is particularly interested in assisting employers work through complex restructuring projects, managing issues involving employee mental health, and navigating workplace investigations. Charlotte takes a strategic and pragmatic approach to achieve the best outcomes for her clients in any employment law problem.
Garth Gallaway
Garth specialises in civil litigation, insurance work and health and safety (H&S). One of New Zealand’s leading legal experts in H&S, Garth acts for employers in investigations and prosecutions, both on direct instructions and through insurers. He has been involved in some of New Zealand’s highest profile coronial inquests, and provides strategic legal advice to leading corporates and boards on H&S matters. Garth has extensive experience advising clients on professional indemnity, statutory liability and public liability insurance. He has a broad civil litigation practice and has appeared before all levels of the court system and numerous specialist tribunals. He frequently acts for solicitors, accountants, real estate agents, valuers and a range of organisations in professional negligence proceedings and disciplinary matters. He is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution, especially mediation. Garth is recognised as a leading individual by Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2022 and as a leading lawyer by Chambers Asia Pacific 2022.
Kara Hiron
Kara has been the legal counsel for Manukau Institute of Technology since 2014, and she took on the additional role of legal counsel at Unitec Institute of Technology in 2021. As senior legal counsel for both institutions, Kara runs a small team that provides legal advice and supports the businesses across a wide range of issues and disciplines. Prior to her role at MIT, Kara worked in private practice as a senior commercial lawyer.
Laura Scampion
Laura Scampion's more than 20 years' experience in employment and health & safety law spans both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She's appeared before various courts and tribunals in both countries, acting for some of New Zealand's, and the world's, largest companies. Laura specialises in multijurisdictional matters for employers based across the globe. As well as cross border expertise in transactional employment work, Laura regularly advises on performance, misconduct, restructuring/re-organisations, whistleblowing, discrimination and labour inspector/compliance issues. Laura heads up the national employment team at DLA Piper. She also leads DLA Piper New Zealand’s Diversity & Inclusion initiative, sits on the firm’s APAC Regional Advisory Committee, and the board of the firm’s Global Scholarship Programme.
Dione Miller
Dione is BNZ’s Head of Legal – Dispute Resolution, Regulation and Investigations, with a practice area covering litigation and regulatory investigation management, regulatory reform, restructuring and insolvencies, and financial crime. Before moving to BNZ in 2014, she worked in private practice with a strong commercial focus on financial services, securities enforcement, and consumer protection, and advised the receivers of several finance companies which collapsed following the GFC. Dione holds a board position for a Wellington-based not for profit health care provider, and is currently acting Company Secretary for a BNZ subsidiary.
Brent McAnulty
Brent leads TVNZ’s Legal and Corporate Affairs team which is responsible for legal compliance, risk management, governance, broadcasting standards, external communications and government relations. He is a Director of Freeview Limited (a joint venture with Discovery, Māori Television and RNZ) and TVNZ’s four subsidiary companies. Prior to joining TVNZ, Brent worked in-house at Telecom New Zealand (now Spark) and the British Medical Association. He also worked at New York firm Weil Gotshal & Manges during a five year stint overseas in London. Brent was named Asia Pacific in-House Counsel of the Year in 2015, and was a finalist in the Global Awards.
Mike Travis
Mike has spent 16 years as an in-house legal counsel in New Zealand and overseas, working with technology businesses or within industries undergoing a digital reinvention. He is a commercial lawyer at heart, with an interest in transformation strategy, technology optimisation, and data-driven decision making.
Ana Simkiss
Ana has practised as a commercial litigation and dispute resolution lawyer for over 20 years. She works with a range of clients to help them to resolve and to manage disputes in a way that enhances their business. Banks, insolvency professionals, business advisers, and businesses themselves benefit from Ana’s expert knowledge. She often works alongside in-house counsel. She specialises in contract law, property law, banking and finance, debt recovery, insolvency, and receiverships. Her recent work includes extensive advice on compliance with new consumer lending regulation and acting on disputes arising out of COVID-19 health measures. Ana regularly appears in the Courts and conducts alternative dispute resolution. She is highly experienced in running large litigation efficiently with the strategic use of litigation management technology. Ana is an author of the Business Disputes section of Lexis Nexis Practical Guidance Business Law.
