Presenters
David Amodeo
David is a barrister who specialises and practises in all areas of relationship and family law, and has done so for over a quarter of a century. David represents a wide variety of clients, including individuals, families and organisations in situations and proceedings across the wide diversity of situations involving people and property that are encompassed within the relevant jurisdictions. Throughout his time in practise David has presented many seminars to lawyers and other professionals working within the area and continues his involvement in a variety of roles within professional associations working in Aotearoa.
Sally Morris
Sally is the founding partner of Morris Legal. She is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand, New South Wales and New York and has a Master of Laws Degree from Columbia University in New York. Sally has an established reputation in the field of trust, estate and relationship property disputes, appearing regularly in the Family Court, High Court and Court of Appeal on behalf of trustees, beneficiaries, executors, charities and private clients.
Andrew Morris
Andrew Morris is a senior associate at Morris Legal. He spent six years working in international law firms in London most recently as a senior associate in the banking and finance team at White & Case LLP. Andrew now specialises in trust, estate and relationship property disputes and has appeared in the Family Court and High Court on behalf of trustees and private clients.
Johanna Robertson
Johanna qualified in 1985 in New Zealand and worked and lived overseas, mainly in the United Kingdom until 2004. She is a qualified UK Solicitor and Children's Panel Member. Whilst in the UK Johanna worked with the multiple award winning family lawyer - Peggy Ray at Goodman Ray Solicitors. She also gained a MA in Children's Observational Studies at the Tavistock Clinic - one of the most significant institutions in the world dealing with the psychology of children and families. Since her return, Johanna has had a general practice and is a Lawyer for Child as well as a qualified mediator.
Mitch Singh
Mitch Singh is a partner at Glaister Ennor specialising in commercial litigation. He holds an LLB from the University of Otago and an LLM (First Class Hons) from the University of Auckland. He has appeared at all levels of our legal system, including the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of New Zealand. Mitch’s practice has a focus on property, contractual and insolvency disputes, although he also has a particular interest in class actions and is an instructing solicitor in one of the shareholder class actions against CBL Corporation Limited (in liquidation) which is currently making its way through the High Court.
Jason Weir
Jason leads the Deloitte Forensic team in New Zealand, which helps clients with disputes, discovery, regulatory matters, investigations, and managing integrity risks. Jason specialises in forensic accounting and forensic technology. Jason has led many of the large complex forensic projects in New Zealand over the last fifteen years including leading the investigations into many of the failed finance companies, leading an investigation into an alleged $300 million financial statement overstatement, and working with lawyers on large complex disputes, regulatory matters and class actions. Jason enjoys working with lawyers to solve complex problems efficiently and robustly leveraging digital, analytical and AI skills and infrastructure. Jason has provided evidence in both civil and criminal matters in the High Court, District Court and Employment Relations Authority.
Ben Crossman
Ben is an Associate Director in the Deloitte New Zealand Forensic Technology team. He has more than 10 years’ experience advising top-tier law firms and international corporates on best Forensic Technology and Discovery practices. Ben joined Deloitte New Zealand in 2021 from Deloitte in London, where he spent four years working with clients and their lawyers using technology to solve problems in disputes, investigations and regulatory matters. Ben has vast experience in applying proven analytical and AI techniques including concept clustering, text analytics and machine learning to efficiently and robustly manage large document sets.
Oliver Collette-Moxon
Oliver is a civil and commercial barrister with two decades of litigation experience in New Zealand and the UK. He has expertise in a wide range of areas including construction, insurance, fraud, banking and finance, local and cross-border trade, insolvency, company and shareholder disputes, and injunctive relief. Many of his cases have an insurance angle, including those involving land and buildings. He regularly represents clients in first-instance and appellate courts, and in arbitrations.
Charlotte Houghton
Charlotte specialises in litigation and dispute resolution, with particular expertise in personal and corporate insolvency, debt recovery, and security enforcement. Charlotte also has expertise in dispute resolution between directors, shareholders and trustees, and disputes involving negligent valuations and commercial leasing. Charlotte also advises clients in relation to insurance disputes and disputes under the Construction Contracts Act 2002. Charlotte has appeared in Court at all levels in New Zealand, including in the Supreme Court. Charlotte is a member of the Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association of New Zealand (RITANZ) and the New Zealand Insurance Law Association.
Michelle Mau
Michelle Mau is a Senior Associate in Russell McVeagh's Litigation team. She has a broad practice, advising on a number of high value commercial disputes for leading businesses across New Zealand. In particular, Michelle has expertise and substantial experience advising on property and leasing disputes, construction disputes and insolvency. She is the author and co-author of a number of thought leadership articles and publications. Michelle started her legal career with Russell McVeagh in 2013 and became a Senior Associate with the firm in 2020.
Jo Douglas
Jo has extensive experience across all aspects of employment law. Her career has included as an advisor to government, private practice in specialist employment law teams, in-house in the UK, and managing a team of lawyers in a business organisation. She established her own practice in 2014, and the partnership of Douglas Erickson was formed in 2016. Jo is as an employment lawyer who commonly appears in the MBIE mediation service, the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court, representing and advocating for her clients.
Tara Grant
Tara is a specialist trust and relationship property lawyer whose work involves advising on complex estate planning and section 21 contracting out matters. Tara is also highly regarded for her resolution focused approach to relationship property and trust settlements, often involving complex asset structures. Tara broke new ground for Martelli McKegg in 2017 when she moved from Auckland to Rotorua and began operating as the firm’s first fulltime remote lawyer.
Telise Kelly
Telise is a senior associate in the dispute resolution team at Martelli McKegg, with a particular focus on financial disputes arising from the break-down of a marital or de facto relationship or the death of a spouse or parent. She has considerable experience across the jurisdictions of the Family Court, District Court and High Court and has a particular interest in complex structures and valuation issues. Telise also has a solid footing in civil litigation, having acted in a variety of matters before the District and High Courts including injunctive relief, construction disputes and insolvency issues
Philip Skelton QC
Philip Skelton QC is a barrister specialising in commercial litigation, employment law, shareholder disputes and public inquiries. Philip is one of the leading class action lawyers in New Zealand. He was senior counsel for the Rosses in Ross v Southern Response Earthquake Services Limited, the first opt out class action in New Zealand. He is currently acting as senior counsel for Mr Livingstone in a shareholder class action against CBL Corporation Limited and some of its former directors. Philip was admitted to the Bar in 1983 and commenced practice as a barrister sole in 2006 after 14 years as a Russell McVeagh partner. He was made a QC in 2013.
