Anoushka Bloem, Principal, Bloem & Associates
Anoushka Bloem founded Bloem and Associates as one of the only specialist criminal defence practices in Auckland. Anoushka specialises in jury trials for serious crime. She conducts jury trials in the Auckland region District Courts and the High Court. She also conducts appeals in the Court of Appeal. Anoushka represents people charged with the full spectrum of criminal charges. She regularly defends clients charged with sexual, violence drug and dishonesty offending. She also appears for civil forfeiture applications. Anoushka has 15 years’ experience in the area of criminal law. Anoushka was admitted to the bar in 2004. She is a member of the Criminal bar association, is a committee member of the Auckland Women Lawyer’s Association and is a committee member of the Auckland District Court sexual violence pilot.
Scott Brickell, Barrister, Blackstone Chambers
Scott was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand in 2003 and as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2008. As a criminal lawyer, Scott has prosecuted and defended both police and departmental matters. His civil background has been in public law and tax, working as a civil litigator in London for seven years including a stint working as tax lawyer for a top London firm. In recent years, Scott has practiced exclusively in criminal law. He represents clients facing charges from traffic to drugs, serious violence as well as sexual crimes. As a criminal lawyer he has established a reputation as an advocate committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for his clients.
Jonathan Hudson, Barrister
Jonathan regularly appears before the Court of Appeal and has particular interest in drug offending, Search and Surveillance, challenging the admissibility of evidence and fighting to recover assets taken by the Police using the Proceeds of Crime legislation. Jonathan has achieved significant settlements resulting in the return of large amounts of cash or property seized from clients on the suspicion that they have been unlawfully obtained or are the proceeds of crime. Jonathan has appeared in a number of proceedings in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.
