Marcus Beveridge, Director, Queen City Law NZ Limited.
Marcus Beveridge is the Managing Director of Queen City Law NZ Limited. His main areas of practice are construction and property law, commercial law, foreign investment, real estate services and immigration. Marcus has developed expertise in business-based immigration and has acted on literally 100's of successful business-based immigration applications over the best part of 3 decades. Many of these clients have subsequently become major clients of his firm. The total amount of business immigration funds invested in NZ in the last decade is close to NZ$10 Billion. Marcus is a regular commentator on immigration based issues on national Radio & TV and has presented and chaired many NZ Immigration Law conferences over the years. Marcus has also recently been on several Working Groups and Immigration Reference Groups liaising with senior INZ management about assorted immigration issues. His firm comprises one of NZ’s largest immigration law teams. Marcus was formerly Chairman of NZAMI and Convenor of the New Zealand Law Society Immigration Committee.
Jack Cheng, Consultant, Queen City Law NZ Limited.
Jack Cheng began his legal career in 2000 after graduating from the University of Auckland with an LLB and a BCom. He joined Queen City Law as a consultant in 2014. Prior to joining Queen City Law Jack practised as a barrister sole exclusively in criminal and immigration laws. His extensive criminal defence experience gives him a unique perspective of immigration issues associated with clients who either face or have been convicted of criminal charges in New Zealand or abroad. Currently his practice leans towards assisting clients with challenging immigration circumstances such as s61 requests and character waivers. However, he is also well versed in immigration work of all levels, ranging from routine visa applications to appeals to the Immigration and Protection Tribunal (IPT). Born in Taiwan and educated in New Zealand, Jack is fluent in both Mandarin and English. His litigation and language skills give him a distinct advantage in his legal practice and will continue to serve his clients well
Nicola Tiffen, Partner, Duncan Cotterill
Nicola has specialised in immigration law for almost 20 years. She leads Duncan Cotterill’s national immigration practice, and assists both employers and employees navigate the immigration process, which is much affected by the Covid-19 pandemic Nicola is recommended in the Asia Pacific Legal 500, and regularly provides training and support to employers, other lawyers and immigration advisers. She is a member of several professional associations including: the New Zealand Association of Migration and Investment; the British New Zealand Business Association; IRGlobal; the Canterbury Women's Legal Association and the Global Migration Section of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Katie Alexander, Solicitor, Dentons Kensington Swan
Katie is a Solicitor at Dentons Kensington Swan. She advises clients on a range of employment, immigration, and workplace health and safety matters. This makes her particularly valuable to organisations looking to employ or retain skilled people from overseas. Katie is also on the committee of the New Zealand Association of Immigration Professionals (NZAIP) which has a good working relationship with the New Zealand immigration authorities.
David Cooper, CEO and Director, Malcolm Pacific Immigration
David has worked in the immigration industry for over 38 years. He started his career as an Immigration Officer before joining Malcolm Pacific Immigration in 1988 where he worked in their Auckland, Wellington and London offices. Today David leads the largest team of Licensed Immigration Advisers in New Zealand. Malcolm Pacific Immigration is the market leader of the Investor Visa programme. Their clients have invested over $15 billion into the New Zealand economy. David has sat on the board of the NZAMI, is a former chair of the New Zealand Immigration Institute and participated in numerous reference groups with INZ, IAA and the government.
Daniel Thomson, Director, Malcolm Pacific Immigration
Daniel (Dan) is a foremost expert on Business Immigration polices. He joined Malcolm Pacific Immigration in 2008 working in Wellington and Auckland. Dan oversees the company operations as well as managing a select portfolio of high net worth Investor Visa clients. His expertise with the 2009 business polices has led to a strong reputation in the marketplace for navigating successful applications. Dan has been instrumental in Malcolm Pacific Immigration holding a 100% approval record for Investor Visa applications. Before the border closed Dan was travelling globally presenting business policies to select audiences.
Carol Nan Ma, Director, NZ Visa Wiz Ltd
Carol Ma migrated to NZ as an international student in 2003. She developed a keen interest in immigration matters in the spirit of helping others of similar background and began practising as a licensed immigration adviser since 2014. She focuses her practice areas on temporary and resident visas for skilled migrants. Carol also holds Master of Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland and Bachelor of Civil Engineering with honours from Canterbury University. She works in both transport engineering and immigration industries. Carol finds there are interesting similarities between the two professions, working with codes and standards, flexible and agile problem solving, and standing up to challenges with good communication skills.
Charlotte Summers, Licensed Immigration Adviser, Pathways to New Zealand
Charlotte previously worked for INZ for 18 months following the completion of her LLB before commencing work with one of New Zealand’s leading immigration companies, Pathways to New Zealand Ltd, in Hamilton in October 2012. Due to the restrictions of the Immigration Advisers Licencing Act and the 12 month stand down requirement, Charlotte initially worked in the role of Client Relationship Manager while completing her GCNZIA and LLM degree. Charlotte relocated to the Pathways Wellington Office in January 2016 where she has continued to develop her particular expertise in appeal, deportation, ministerial requests, character and health matters. In regard to immigration-related health matters Charlotte’s expertise has contributed to successful outcomes from children with ASD at all ends of the spectrum through to heart conditions in young and elderly adults, and applicants with cancer, HIV, hepatitis, psychiatric matters and very rare health conditions.
Charlotte’s legal background and her extensive experience with Pathways makes her especially well credentialed to present on immigration health matters.
Stewart Dalley, Partner, D&S Law
Stewart has experience in representing clients at the Immigration and Protection Tribunal, Family Court, District Court and High Court. Stewart is the Chair of the Auckland District Law Society’s Immigration and Refugee Law Committee. He is experienced in all aspects of immigration and refugee law, assisting clients with complex visa applications, deportations, humanitarian appeals, and refugee claims. His wealth of experience in the trade unions in the UK, coupled with his knowledge of immigration and employment matters saw him selected by the government to be a member of the Migrant Worker Exploitation Consultation Group which recommended various measures to protect migrant workers in the workplace.
