With more people working overseas as expatriates, the question of where they are taxed becomes an important issue. In countries with significant numbers of expatriates, some countries have a nil or very low tax rates. Tax residency becomes critical.
If a person is a tax resident of Australia then their worldwide income is taxed in Australia. But if a person is not a resident for tax purposes then only the income earned in Australia is taxable in Australia and not the foreign income.

Gregory Ross has a unique and broad experience of legal practice, mostly Government / commercial law. He has over 40 years legal experience in NSW , litigious and non-litigious, civil and criminal.s. He is a NSW Law Society Accredited Specialist in Public Law (formerly called Government and Administrative Law). His practice is at the interface of Government and Commerce. He has advised much in the area of State Revenue and related litigation and was involved in the writing of the Duties Act which replaced the former Stamp Duties Act.. He regularly advises private individuals and companies on their dealings with Government, particularly to do with professional standards.. He has had a long term involvement Law Reform, across pharmacy law, e-commerce, automated decision making, gaming, electricity and State duties legislation. Gregory is a member of the Legal Qualifications Committee of the Legal Profession Admissions Board of NSW.
