Shane Newton
Shane Newton holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Melbourne and was called to the Bar in 1980. He is a Member of the Supreme Court of Victoria Probate Users Committee. Shane is author of 'Protecting a Will' Federation Press, published in 1991 and which deals with the law relating to claims under Part IV of the Administration and Probate Act 1958 (and its analogues in other jurisdictions) as well as other will related topics. He practices exclusively in the Trusts Equity and Probate jurisdiction (including claims under Part IV of the Act) and has done so for more than 30 years and has appeared in a number of significant cases in the jurisdiction.
Olivia Grobtuch
Olivia Grobtuch is a founding partner of Kennedy Partners, one of Doyles Guide "top tier" Melbourne firms. She is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. Olivia has been practising in family law for over 30 years. She obtained her accreditation as a family law specialist in 1990 and has been a member of various committees of the Law Institute of Victoria including sub-committees dealing with family law reform. She has presented numerous papers relating to specialist family law topics and has regularly attended family law conferences in both the national and international arenas. She has been involved in a number of important matters in the High Court of Australia, and has also worked extensively on international family law matters, and is a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.
Simon Pitt SC
Although he has a broad commercial trial-based practice, Simon specialises in complex litigation in the Trusts, Equity and Probate List of the Supreme Court, usually involving questions regarding deceased estates, family trusts, superannuation, the Corporations Act or testamentary capacity. Simon regularly prepares and presents papers in the areas of wills and estates; trusts, equity and probate; commercial litigation and Supreme Court practice and procedure. Simon is available to advise and appear in all State and Federal jurisdictions.
Marcus Roberts
Marcus practises primarily in commercial, public and tax law. Before coming to the Bar, Marcus was an associate to the Hon Justice Gordon AC at the High Court of Australia and an associate to the Hon Justice Mortimer at the Federal Court of Australia. He also practised as a solicitor at Allens in commercial litigation and insolvency. Marcus graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford. Marcus read with Mark Costello KC and his senior mentor is David Batt KC.
Greg Russo
Greg Russo has almost 30 years’ experience in succession planning, administration and litigation and is one of Victoria’s most experienced and respected succession law solicitors. With a background in pure mathematics, Greg not only understands the implications of planning decisions on future taxation, SMSF, trust and estate administration, he is also able to break down complex concepts and structures logically and explain options to clients in a way that empowers them to take positive action and ownership for their decisions. Vivienne Corcoran
Vivienne is an experienced professional services strategist, mentor, facilitator and marketer with law firms and legal professionals across Australia, Asia and the UK. She has written articles, a book and trained hundreds of professionals on business strategy, development, and management and has held executive marketing and business development roles in a wide range of firms. Vivienne is a qualified company director and currently on the boards of Victorian Opera and ICON APAC. She has post graduate marketing and research qualifications, is a teaching fellow in the Masters of Legal Business Course at the College of Law, and is currently completing a PhD in professional service firm client feedback at Edinburgh Business School. Vivienne is a keen paddle boarder and is a partner in online wine, spirits and tasting events businesses The Wigs Cellar and Drinksmiths.
Adam Coote
Adam practices in common law and commercial law. His common law practice is mainly in personal injuries but includes all torts. He acts for plaintiffs and defendants. Adam accepts briefs to draft paperwork, including for serious injury applications. Adam’s commercial law practice includes contractual disputes, professional negligence (for example: accountants, financial advisers and solicitors), insurance, the Australian Consumer Law and insolvency.
David Roberston KC
David Robertson KC, was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria on 1 April, 1981. Employed by Corr & Corr as a Solicitor and then as an Associate and then Senior Associate from 1981 to 1985 working mainly in Banking, Finance and Commercial Litigation. Signed the Roll of Counsel of the Victorian Bar on 23 May, 1985. Practises mainly in Commercial Law, including Banking, Finance, Securities, Consumer Credit, Trusts and Superannuation and also Constitutional Law, Equity, Company Law, Administrative Law and Professional Negligence. Member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Royal Children’s Hospital. Senior Honorary Fellow and Part-Time Lecturer in Finance Law, University of Melbourne.
Ken Cheng
Prior to coming to the Bar, he was with Pentana Stanton Lawyers and volunteered at the Victorian Legal Aid. His past experience afforded him expertise in a diverse range of practice areas. Those include: criminal matters in the summary and indictable jurisdiction; commercial litigation involving contractual and franchising disputes; and employment matters such as underpayments, workplace discrimination, and instructing in the Fair Work Commission. Ken has an international perspective in his legal practice. He is particularly experienced in working with Chinese-speaking clients. He is fluent in written and oral Chinese – Mandarin and Hokkien. He had also undertaken a litigation internship in the United States with Campbell, Rogers and Hill. Before embarking on his legal career, Ken attended Melbourne Veterinary School and was a registered Veterinarian. Outside of law, Ken enjoys recording jazz guitar, fiction writing and boxing. Ken read with Alan Hands, and his senior mentor is Ian Upjohn CSC QC.
Ian Upjohn CSC KC
Ian Upjohn was called to the Melbourne Bar in 1993 and specialises in commercial law, equity and trusts, disciplinary and other tribunals and alternative dispute resolution. Ian is a co-author (with M Colbran QC) of Pleadings in Butterworths Court Forms, Precedents and Pleadings (Victoria) and a Contributing Author to Palmer on Bailment (Third Edition).
Daniel Epstein
Daniel Epstein principally practices in the VCAT Jurisdiction in the areas of administrative and civil law. Specialising in planning and environment law, building and construction law, compulsory acquisition law, leasing law, owners corporation law, Australian consumer law. Daniel appears at VCAT, Magistrate Court of Victoria, County Court of Victoria, Supreme Court of Victoria, Federal Court of Australia, Victorian Planning Panels, Building Appeals Board Of Victoria, Building Practitioners’ Board, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Small Business Commissioner, Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation and other relevant planning, building and consumer law tribunals and commercial arbitrations. Daniel is a sessional lecturer in trial practice and advocacy at Monash University and an accredited advocacy instructor. He is a guest lecturing in building, construction and planning and often acts on a pro bono basis for the consumer action law centre and other watchdog organisations. Daniel is a member of the Victorian Planning and Environmental Law Association (VPELA) and Building Dispute Practitioners’ Society (BDPS). Daniel holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in political science.
Anna O’Callaghan
Anna practises in commercial, public and criminal law. Anna has a particular interest in matters where civil and criminal jurisdictions intersect. She has appeared in the Federal Court, the Supreme Court, the County Court, the Magistrates’ Court, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (the VCAT) and the Children’s Court. Anna has advised and acted for individual and government clients in a variety of commercial matters. Examples of hearings in which she has appeared include: interlocutory hearings dealing with procedural and evidentiary issues, applications for stay of proceedings, applications to wind up companies, commercial arbitrations in the Magistrates’ Court, judicial mediations in the County Court and Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (Vic) disputes in the VCAT.
Nadia Stojanova
Nadia Stojanova's practice at the Victorian Bar specialises in employment law, industrial relations and regulatory law. Nadia is a recommended junior counsel by Doyles Guide. Nadia runs a busy practice where she is regularly briefed for litigation, advice, drafting and complex workplace matters (such as high-risk investigations and media-sensitive disputes). Alexandra Tighe
Alex is a partner in the Dispute Resolution & Litigation Group with more than 15 years’ experience practising as a senior lawyer. Alex specialises in commercial dispute resolution, regulatory investigations and Royal Commissions. Alex is an accredited advisor with Family Business Australia and regularly works with family businesses, trusts, high net worth individuals and private clients in a range of disputes including minority shareholder claims, breach of trust and wills and estates claims. Alex is a highly proficient litigator and has been recognised by her peers as a Leading Victorian Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Lawyer in Doyle’s Guide since 2018.
