Katya Lakes
Katya is a senior lawyer with a diverse and varied legal practice from top tier private practice, government, not for profit and commercial in house. Katya currently practices in commercial, telecommunications and technology law. Her passion is to bring integrity and humanity to the delivery of legal services and to contribute to providing access to justice. She has undertaken pro bono legal work throughout her career overseeing the direction of community performance and sporting bodies, advising youth organisations and supporting community legal centres. Katya is also a member of Digital Law Association and Australian Lawyers for Human Rights, Women and Girls committee.
Sabina Schlink
Sabina Schlink is the Principal of Thomas Legal and a director of the corporate advisory company One Stop Corporate Solutions. She is also the Deputy Chair of the Legal Practice Board and Convenor of the Admissions and Registrations Committee of the Board and sits on its Management Committee. She is also a member of the Legal Services Council – Commissioner for Uniform Legal Services Regulation Solicitors Regulation Authority and Legal Services Council Working Group. In addition, Sabina is an honorary lifetime member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and a former member of the Legal Practitioners Complaints Committee and the Supreme Court of Western Australia Library Committee. She was also a long-term member of the Attorney Generals Working Party on changes to the laws of Succession in Western Australia and has sat on several Boards in the charitable sector.
Claire Vines
Claire Vines is a Senior Legal Counsel at Hudson. A technology, employment and commercial lawyer with over 17 years in-house experience, Claire has a deep passion for emerging trends and developments in the legal, psychology and HR technology fields and stays to up to date on the latest advancements in AI technology, recruitment practices, and fair work regulations to provide strategic guidance on industry best practices and the potential of AI to revolutionise talent acquisition and selection to ensure efficiency, objectivity, and fairness throughout employment lifecycle. Claire was previously Principal and Head of R&D for lexvoco and LOD and spent her time designing and developing applications for in-house lawyers ranging from simple document automation to artificial intelligence and predictive analytics.
Stephen Newman
Stephen Newman is a corporate and litigation lawyer who practices principally in the fields of corporate advisory, corporate governance and risk management, regulatory compliance and enforcement, commercial transactions and commercial disputes. Stephen has been a partner with several law firms and recently was the General Counsel at BDO, Chartered Accountants. Stephen has advised clients operating in a wide variety of industries including banking and finance, energy and resources, higher education and training, retail and manufacturing, technology and innovation and transport and logistics and professional advisers including auditors and accountants. Stephen is a member of the Corporations and Insolvency and Restructuring committees of the Law Council of Australia, is a regular presenter of seminars and for many years lectured at the Graduate Law School, Melbourne University on the subject Shareholders’ Rights and Remedies.
