Presenters
Rowan Skinner
Rowan has practiced extensively in family & relationship law since 1988. He formerly practiced as a barrister at the Victorian Bar for 15 years and has wide experience as an advocate in the family law jurisdiction and as a trial lawyer in crime, family and other areas. Rowan’s career spans over 30 years in various legal roles, including as a trial lawyer at the Victorian Bar, which brings serious perspective to difficult legal problems. In criminal law, Rowan was formerly a solicitor in the criminal department of Phillips Fox as a criminal advocate. He practiced as a trial lawyer at the Victorian bar. Both as a prosecutor and defence lawyer, Rowan appeared in a wide range of serious criminal matters including committals, criminal trials, bail applications in the Supreme Court and OPI investigations.
Laura Villemagne-Sanchez
Laura has practiced exclusively in specialist family law teams for the past 7 years and is currently undertaking her Accredited Specialisation in Family Law. Laura specialises in surrogacy and donor agreement matters and complex property matters with international elements. Laura is particularly involved in high conflict parenting matters, including international relocation and family violence matters. In 2020, Laura was a finalist for the Women in Law Awards. Since 2020, Laura has been the Chair of the Steering Committee of the Victorian Family Law Pathways Network – Greater Melbourne. Laura is originally from Argentina and is fluent in Spanish.
Alexandra Tighe
Alex is a partner in our Dispute Resolution & Litigation Group with more than 15 years’ experience practicing as a senior lawyer. Alex specializes in commercial dispute resolution, regulatory investigations and Royal Commissions. Alex is an accredited advisor with Family Business Australia and regularly works with family businesses, trusts, high net worth individuals and private clients in a range of disputes including minority shareholder claims, breach of trust and wills and estates claims. Alex is a highly proficient litigator and has been recognized by her peers as a Leading Victorian Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Lawyer in Doyle’s Guide 2018 and 2021. In 2020, Alex was a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards and was named Partner of the Year – Big Law, at the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards. Alex has also been recognized in Australasian Lawyer’s list of Elite Women for 2021. Outside Holding Redlich, Alex is a non-executive Director of the Board of the Mercy Health Foundation, a voluntary role she has held since 2019. Alex co-authored the 2021 Lexology Complex Commercial Litigation guide Commercial litigation proceedings in Australia.
Amara Hughes
Amara accepts briefs in all areas of criminal and quasi-criminal law, as well as administrative law. Amara appears in pleas, appeals, bail applications, committals and contested hearings in the Magistrates’, County and Supreme Courts of Victoria. Amara has also appeared as junior counsel at trial in the District Court of Sydney. In addition to criminal defence work, Amara appears as counsel for both prosecuting agencies and defence in regulatory matters, including matters concerning the EPA, VBA and GRV. Amara has worked as junior counsel for the AFL.Amara commenced her legal career working for his Honour Judge Troy in the District Court of Western Australia, before moving to Victoria and practicing as a solicitor advocate.
