Dominic Maley
Dominic Maley was made a partner of MacLarens Lawyers in 2015. Since 2017, he has been the sole lecturer in Professional Practice and Building Law at WSU, and more recently he has taken up positions at the university teaching Building Law (under grad), Construction Law (post grad), and the Expert Evidence modules of Construction Claims. He also guest lectures at UTS in Property Transactions.
Ian Dunwoodie
A commercial property and business lawyer since 1981, working first in large and medium sized law firms, experienced in high value private, government, business and property transactions, Ian established a boutique CBD business, property law and wealth management firm, moving to Edgecliff in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in 1999. Dr Stephen Pallavicini
Prior to joining Macpherson Kelly Stephen was a Partner at Eakin McCaffery Cox. He as spent many years as a Senior Legal Counsel at Stockland and as Senior Property Lawyer at Woolworths Limited. He has been a member of the Law Society's Property Law Committee since 2006, the Ethics Committee since 2018 and the Law Society's Property Law Accreditation Committee since 2009. He contributes regularly to the Australian Property Law Bulletin and is co-author Thomson Reuters on-line service Commercial Leasing Precedents.
Joseph Grassi
Joseph Grassi was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1977 and is an Accredited Specialist in Property Law, a Notary Public and holds a Master of Laws degree. He provides legal advice to private and corporate clients in relation to residential, commercial and industrial sub-divisions and strata developments. He also provides advice on environment, planning and assessment, joint ventures and financial structures of developments, asset protection strategies including Estate Planning and Administration. He is a board member of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and the chair of its Finance and Performance Committee. Joseph is also the Chairman of the Nepean Blue Mountains Education and Medical Research Foundation which is a charity established to provide fundraising services to the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District in particular in the areas of education and research. Joseph is a past member of the Property Law Committee of the Law Society of New South Wales.,
Robyn Druitt
Robyn Druitt is a barrister at Lachlan Macquarie Chambers. She was admitted to the bar on 4 February 1991. Prior to this Robyn practiced as a solicitor from 1977-1991 in country New South Wales then suburban Sydney. Robyn's bar practice is now mainly in the area of Family Law, where she has a particular interest in advocacy in Family Law and sexual abuse. Robyn has extensive experience in the Children's Court (including Children of God litigation) and Common Law Claims against DOCS and NSW Department of Education (for the Crown in indigenous and non indigenous claims by wards as to abuse in care and sexually abused pupils in public schools). She was previously the President of NSW Young Lawyers (1983-1984) and a member of Family Law Committee (Law Society and Bar Association), the Legal Aid Committee (Law Society) and the Equal Opportunity Committee (Bar Association). Robyn is married with 3 children.
Shanna Mahony
Shanna Mahony is a member of the NSW Bar practicing at Lachlan Macquarie Chambers specialising in family law and care and protection matters. Prior to coming to the Bar she was the Director of Mahony Family Lawyers, a local Parramatta firm specialising in Family Law, Care and Protection and Wills and Estates. Shanna is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law and has extensive experience in both litigation practice and non litigious matters. Shanna is a passionate advocate for the protection of women and children from violence and am a regular presenter at CLE seminars and conferences on Family Law practice and in particular issues involving family violence and child abuse.
Andrew Givney
Andrew Givney was called to the Bar in 1987 and has practiced exclusively in Family Law since then. Andrew was one of the founding members of Waratah Chambers, returning to practice in Parramatta in 2017. Andrew has served on Legal Aid committees including the committee to appoint Independent Children’s Lawyers for approximately 10 years. Andrew has appeared in the Full Court on numerous occasions, has been involved in trials covering a wide spectrum of Family Law matters. Andrew has served two terms as a Director or RSPCA (NSW) and is a keen advocate for animal welfare.
Katelin Whitley
Katelin Whitley is the principal of Bestic Law located in Sydney and the Hunter Valley and practices primarily in succession, trust, and property law matters. She was admitted to practice in 2001 and was recognised by the NSW Law Society as an Accredited Wills and Estates Specialist in 2011 and as an Accredited Property Law Specialist in 2021. She works on both simple and high level estate planning and acts on estate administrations including for large and complex estates. She has considerable experience advising and acting on contested estate litigation including lack of testamentary capacity and undue influence cases, family provision claims, construction of will litigation, and application of the Forfeiture Act. Katelin has represented estates, applicants, and beneficiaries. Katelin has completed her Master of Laws at the University of Sydney and Master of Forensic Mental Health in the UNSW School of Psychiatry. She has been lecturing in the College of Law Wills & Estates Master of Applied Law program since 2017, has been a member of the Law Society of the NSW Elder Law and Succession Committee since 2012. Katelin is also a Notary Public and serves as a Council Member with the Society of Notaries of New South Wales Inc.
John Clifton
John Clifton came to the Bar in 2004. Prior to that he worked in litigation at small and medium firms since his admission as a solicitor in 1994, including 2 years in the United Kingdom. John has worked on a wide variety of matters in his career, but in recent years his practice has consisted mainly of commercial litigation arising from contractual disputes. He also practises in Wills and Estates litigation including Family Provision claims and has a particular interest in that area.
David Ash
David Ash is a mediator, arbitrator and barrister practising from Frederick Jordan Chambers in Sydney. Admitted as a barrister in NSW in 1998, David has maintained a broad civil practice. He has regularly advised and appeared in state and federal Courts and statutory tribunals including courts of appeal and the High Court of Australia. He is a part-time general member of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. David is approved by BarADR as an arbitrator and as a mediator. David is the author of Three Sydney Judges, a history of three Sydney appointments to the High Court. He blogs at jurisprude.net . David is a consulting editor for the Federal Court Reports and writes for the NSW Civil Procedure Handbook. Steven Brown
Steven Brown is highly experienced lawyer with an extensive knowledge in all aspects of commercial law, with an intimate knowledge of the Corporations Law and the Australian Securities Exchange business and listing rules, being involved in corporate structuring, compliance, corporate takeovers, company floats, the preparation of prospectuses, employee share schemes and advising on directors' duties, and insolvency and securities law and practice. Steven currently lectures: in the Masters of Banking Law Course conducted by Macquarie University; in the Master of Finance for FINSIA in the areas of securities and insolvency and contract law and law, regulation and ethics; and for the Property Investors Association of Australia in security law and practice. Steven has published a number of articles on commercial subjects. He has lectured for the Australian Institute of Company Directors from 1989-2008, lectured in the Master and Doctorate courses at UTS in corporations, finance and securities law from 1989-1995, and is currently lecturing in the College of Law Masters course in commercial drafting and business structuring.
Ayman Guirguis
Ayman Guirguis heads up the Competition and Consumer Law team at K&L Gates in Australia. He advises on all aspects and issues of competition including the implications of mergers, joint ventures and supply chain issues; defending clients alleged to be parties to cartels or other anticompetitive arrangements; and consumer law issues including responding to ACCC investigations and defending prosecutions commenced by the ACCC. Ayman was formerly a senior officer of the ACCC. Ayman is named as a leading individual for Competition/Antitrust in Chambers Global and Best Lawyers.
Denis Barlin
With a particular focus on the SME market, Denis Barlin advises on all aspects of revenue laws, including income tax, CGT, GST and State taxes generally - including stamp duties and land tax. As well as taxation, Denis provides advice on trust law matters generally and superannuation. Denis is a regular speaker for professional associations including the TIA and has been a regular contributor to a number of professional journals.
Michael Doherty
Michael is a highly experienced Employment and Workplace Relations Lawyer honing his skills since 1998 and providing valuable advice for clients, including CEOs of ASX-listed companies, senior executives and managers of national and multinational companies, managers and independent contractors. He has represented clients in some of Australia’s most significant industrial relations cases, including the Trade Union Royal Commission of 2014/2015 and the Banking and Finance Royal Commission of 2018, where Michael represented an industry superannuation fund. Michael also represented clients at hearings following Qantas’ grounding of its fleet in 2011 and the hearings that suspended industrial action by Sydney Trains employees in 2018. Caroline Hutchinson
Caroline Hutchinson is a Principal Director and Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation who leads Coleman Greig’s Commercial Litigation and Employment teams. She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. With extensive experience in litigation, Caroline and her dynamic team deal with a wide variety of issues from contractual disputes to intellectual property proceedings, misleading and deceptive conduct through to insolvency matters, building and construction through to workplace advice and disputes. Caroline brings to the benefit of her clients a pragmatic perspective and has advised on large-scale commercial projects, complex contractual disputes and litigation, and worked with national clients in various sectors including Australian subsidiaries of multinationals. Geoff Roberson
Geoff is the principal of Stacks Champion. He has over 40 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer and litigator. He is an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation. He has acted in disputes involving all aspects of corporate law, partnerships, trade practices, building and construction law, employment law, professional negligence, local government, planning and environment, product liability, guarantees, trusts and estates, defamation and contract disputes. He has conducted matters in the High Court, Supreme Court, Federal, District and Local Courts, together with a variety of Tribunals. Geoff was President of the Law Society of NSW, Parramatta Rotary Club, Parramatta City Chamber of Commerce and Artswest. He was an elected member of the Parramatta City Council for four and a half years (1999 – 2004). He was Deputy Chancellor of Western Sydney University. He is an Emeritus Member of The College of Law, he holds an Honorary Doctorate awarded by Western Sydney University and he is a life member of the Law Society of NSW and a Paul Harris Fellow.
J Angelo Berbotto
Solicitor and translator since 2005, Angelo has worked in Australia and England. He is a NAATI certified translator English-Spanish (both directions) and French, Italian and Portuguese into English. He also holds the UK Chartered Institute of Linguists’ Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Legal strand, 2006). After several years working in public law, Angelo served as the Attorney-General of the British Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha from 2016 to 2018. He currently divides his time between his legal practice (Family and Immigration Law) and his translation practice. Silvia Martinez
Silvia is a Certified Specialist Legal Interpreter and Certified Translator (Spanish<>English), concentrating her freelance practice in conference and legal interpreting. She has assisted in research which contributed to the establishment of the JCCD’s Recommended National Standards for Working with Interpreters in Courts and Tribunals, and regularly trains interpreters entering the legal system. She is engaged to provide interpreting services in the NSW criminal jurisdiction through Multicultural NSW, and in other jurisdictions where private clients may require it.
Darrell Kake
Darrell is a partner at Longton Legal and has conducted court proceedings in NSW, QLD, VIC and the Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea. Darrell is a NSW Law Society accredited specialist in commercial litigation and a member of the NSW Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Commercial Litigation Advisory Committee. Before his return to NSW, Darrell was previously the equivalent in Queensland. Darrell is an adjunct lecturer in the College of Law’s specialist Masters of Law (LLM) in Commercial Litigation and was an officer in the Australian Army Reserve for over 20 years. Darrell has prepared many affidavits. He secretly believes that oral evidence is best as it most accurately reflects the observations of witnesses, however considers that careful drafting can significantly improve the quality of affidavit evidence.
Hernan Pintos-Lopez
Hernan Pintos-Lopez has appeared in courts, tribunals and inquiries on behalf of major national and international corporations, government departments and individuals. Hernan's practice builds on knowledge and practical experience developed through a career in government and public life. It spans a range of areas including: commercial litigation and class actions (including in relation to bushfires); royal commissions, inquiries and coronial inquests; equity; administrative law; corporations law; technology and construction; and succession and family provision. In 2008, Hernan was awarded the University Medal for Law by the University of NSW. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Hernan worked for nearly fifteen years in the government, business and community sectors.
Michelle Yu
Michelle practises primarily in the areas of migration law, public/administrative law, family law and children’s care and protection. Prior to being called to the Bar, Michelle practised as a legal adviser to members and staff of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (Migration and Refugee Division). Michelle has also previously worked for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and community legal centres specialising in migration and refugee law. Due to her experience working with both applicants and government agencies, Michelle has developed a strong understanding of the Australian migration and citizenship framework and their impact on other areas of law.
Daniel Hanna
After practising 7 years in a boutique insurance firm and 12 years in one of Australia's top 20 firms, Daniel Hanna joined the Parramatta Bar in 2011. His common law practice is mainly in the CTP and public liability fields. Over time he has developed specific expertise in the technical fields of Compensation to Relatives, Nominal Defendant claims, administrative law reviews and statutory limitation issues.
