Dr Robert Guthrie
Rob Guthrie is the Professor of Workers Compensation and Workplace Law at Curtin University in Perth Western Australia. He was admitted to practice as Barrister and Solicitor in 1982 and practiced in the area of workers compensation for approximately 10 years before turning to academic research into the area. He was the author of reports to the WA Government on workers compensation in 1991, 1999 and 2001. He has been an advocate for injured workers for 25 years and a consultant to WorkCover WA and various Ministers responsible for workers compensation legislation. He was the foundation the author of LexisNexis Workers Compensation Western Australia. He was sworn in as an Assessor of Criminal Injuries Compensation in May 2010.
Gemma McGrath
Gemma McGrath is a Director of Panetta McGrath Lawyers and specialises in providing advice to health practitioners and hospitals in civil claims for negligence and disciplinary proceedings. Prior to studying law, she trained as a registered nurse. Gemma is also an NMAS Accredited Mediator providing professional mediation services in workplace mediation and in the health, aged care and disability sectors. She is recognised in Doyle’s Guide as a pre-eminent Western Australian medical negligence and malpractice lawyer (Defendant). She is also named in Best Lawyers in the categories of insurance law and professional malpractice litigation. Gemma is a member of the Australasian Professional Indemnity Group, Australian Insurance Law Association and Law Society of Western Australia. She is also a member of the St John of God Health Care Scientific Review Sub Committee and a Board member of Alzheimer’s WA, a not for profit organisation providing support for people living with all types of dementia.
John Fiocco
Admitted in 1973, John Fiocco holds an LL.B degree from The University of Western Australia and an LL.M degree from the University of Virginia, USA. Currently, practising exclusively as a Barrister from Fourth Floor Chambers, he is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at The University of Western Australia. He is the Chairperson of the Legal Practice Board. In 2010, he was awarded Life Membership of the Law Society of Western Australia and in 2015, awarded the Law Society of Western Australia’s Lawyer of the Year, for making a significant contribution to the Legal Profession in Western Australia. Currently, he is a Co-Author of the Lexis Nexis loose leaf publication Workers Compensation Western Australia.
Raoul Cywicki
Raoul graduated from UWA with a Bachelor of Laws in 1983. In 1985, he became a Partner of the firm, Corser and Corser where he practiced in the areas of Banking, Employment, Compensation and Insurance Law. In 1996, Raoul joined Sir Lawrence Jackson Chambers, where he conducted practice solely as a Barrister, accepting briefs principally in the areas of Torts and Property Law. In 2008, Raoul became a founding member of Sir Clifford Grant Chambers, which currently has seven members. Raoul has appeared as Counsel in the District and Supreme Courts of Western Australia and the Federal Court of Australia, representing litigants in wide ranging areas of law. Raoul has a special interest in Personal Injuries Litigation and Forensic Science. He is invited annually by the UWA Centre for Forensic Anthropology to assist in the examination of the Centre’s students.
