Sarah Porritt
Sarah Porritt is an experienced advocate having developed a broad practice in appeals work encompassing a wide range of regulatory reviews and planning, development and infrastructure related matters. She is the previous editor of the Lexis Nexis publication Planning and Environment Victoria. She is briefed regularly in Supreme Court appeals and trials in a variety of areas especially review hearings at VCAT and planning scheme amendments and advisory committees before Planning Panels Victoria having built her practice around her planning, development and regulatory background.
Bridget Phelan
Bridget Phelan is an experienced planning and environment lawyer with 20 years of practise in Victoria and New South Wales. For government and private clients, she advises on general environmental compliance issues across the telecommunications, industrial and consumer, real estate and energy and resources sectors. These compliance issues include product stewardship, trade waste disposal, and advising in relation to transport and disposal of prescribed waste. Bridget also advises on Environment Effects Statements/EIS, Planning Scheme Amendments and development approvals for major projects including linear infrastructure of rail, roads, gas and water pipelines, electricity transmission lines, submarine cables and, most recently, for offshore wind farms. Bridget is a member of the editorial board of the Australian Environmental Review.
Jane Hall
Jane delivers, and provides advice in respect of, infrastructure, energy and resources, utility and city-shaping projects involving a range of environmental, planning, heritage and water law issues and regulatory approval requirements. Jane has a strong contaminated land practice, a leading water law practice, advises in respect of local government obligations and requirements, has acted on compulsory acquisitions for both acquiring authorities and interest holders, and has extensive experience in the retirement, closure, remediation and rehabilitation of thermal assets and industrial sites. Her practice encompasses all Australian jurisdictions and the Asia-Pacific region. Jane assists clients in their dealings with environmental regulators, and in understanding their compliance obligations. She acts for clients when they are being investigated and penalised by the EPA, an increasingly regular occurrence. Jane has provided numerous advices, and written extensively, on the Environment Protection Act 2017 (Vic).
Chris Primmer
Chris Primmer is a lawyer in Ashurst's Planning, Access and Environment Team. Chris advises on environmental regulatory issues and compliance obligations for government and commercial clients. This includes responding to EPA remedial notices, as well as assisting with EPA investigations. Chris has a particular interest in the waste management industry, and has recently completed a secondment with a leading Waste Management Company. The secondment involved advising the business on its environmental obligations at various landfill and recycling facilities across New South Wales and Victoria.
Gabrielle Guthrie
Gabrielle Guthrie is a leading environment and planning lawyer with 16+ years of technical and tactical experience. She is founder and Principal of Guthrie Legal, a boutique environment and planning practice that advises national corporations on environment and planning matters. She is currently Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria's Environmental Issues Committee and is Recommended in the 2021 Doyles Guide as a Leading Environment & Climate Change lawyer.
Jacqueline Plant
Jacqueline Plant is an environment and planning lawyer based in Melbourne. She has extensive transactional, litigation and advisory experience advising clients in the waste, energy and development and government sectors on a wide range of environmental and planning matters including, environmental licensing and compliance, waste management, contaminated land, native vegetation, aboriginal cultural heritage, planning applications, planning scheme amendments and providing due diligence advice. Jacqueline has advised numerous waste and resource recovery operators on licensing, operational and compliance issues including representing them in various contested hearings. She has also acted for both owners and tenants of land involving potentially contaminating activities, including waste storage. Currently, Jacqueline is advising many clients on the changes introduced by, and the implications of the new Victorian environmental protection legislative framework. Jacqueline was named as a leading environment and climate change lawyer in Doyles Guide 2022.
