Presenters
Phill Scott
Phill has a background in Tendering and Contracting in both the private and Local Government sectors. He is currently Chief Procurement Officer for Local Government Procurement Pty Ltd in New South Wales and has lectured part-time at TAFE in the areas of Purchasing, Warehousing and Logistics. He has been involved in drafting, evaluation and governance of an estimated 200 tenders and contracts for goods, services, consultancies and constructions over nearly 20 years. Phill was awarded lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) accreditation from Victoria University in association with the Institute for Supply Management (U.S.A.). He is recognised as a ‘Fellow’ of World Commerce and Contracting association (formally IACCM).
Victoria Yang
Victoria is the Contracts & Legal Officer of LGP, who is an admitted Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia. She holds a Juris Doctor Degree in the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Laws degree in law overseas. Victoria enjoys over 9 years’ working experience as a legal professional in both the private sector and the government sector by providing legal services to large-scale procurement projects including civil construction projects, mining projects, logistics & transport transactions, and high-value finance matters.
Scott Alden
Scott Alden is a partner at HWL Ebsworth in Sydney. Scott has been working in the areas of major projects and infrastructure for over 20 years and is a recognised specialist in these areas as well as the sectors of Government, Water, Defence, Ports, and Housing. Scott is known for providing legal advice with pragmatism and commerciality to ensure that the advice is relevant to the project and parties to the transaction. Scott has been at the forefront of advising on the recent legislation regarding small business and modern slavery advising both government and private sector on the implications and compliance issues arising out of these new legislative regimes. Scott is an accredited expert in the areas of Government and Administrative Law as well as the author and lecturer of two Masters of Laws programs at the College of Law and University of Melbourne respectively.
Katrina Mae
Katrina is a Special Counsel in the Sydney office of HWL Ebsworth Lawyers' national Construction and Infrastructure practice. She is experienced in advising government and private sector clients alike with respect to all stages of the project life cycle, from procurement, through delivery, to the resolution of disputes, in relation to a wide variety of infrastructure, energy, retail, large-scale residential, education and commercial projects.
Sonya Kroon
Sonya has over 30 years experience in commercial law and more than15 years experience advising in construction projects. Her projects span a diverse range across a number of industry sectors including mixed residential/retail/commercial developments, industrial facilities (including automation), retail, marine infrastructure, airports, government infrastructure, shopping centres, roads, recreational and other facilities. Sonya has particular expertise in procurement and tender processes, construction and infrastructure project documentation, project administration and delivery, claims, disputes and dispute resolution. Sonya has represented clients on both contentious and non-contentious matters and is highly regarded for her ability to facilitate projects, and her pragmatic approach and accurate, commercial advice.
Stuart Cosgriff
Stuart advises on public private partnerships and other social and economic infrastructure procurement projects across a range of sectors. Stuart has advised extensively in connection with the procurement, acquisition and management of infrastructure in the rail, roads, ports, sports and leisure and healthcare sectors via public private partnerships, build own operate and transfer and similar procurement models. Stuart has advised on some of the largest and most complex PPP projects carried out in NSW. Most recently, Stuart was the partner leading the Clayton Utz team advising the NSW Government on the NorthConnex toll road which was provided as unsolicited proposal to the NSW Government.
Charles Thornley
Charles manages the firm’s Construction and Engineering practice. He is the lead advisor to insurance clients in construction and engineering; professional indemnity; and property sectors. He handles some of Australia's largest and most complex construction and engineering disputes and he is regarded as a policy coverage specialist. Charles has specialised in construction and engineering and property insurance since entering private practice in 1994 in South Africa and maintained his focus after immigrating to Australia in 2003. Charles' extensive experience is complemented by his strong interest in product liability in construction products. He represents and advises a wide range of construction principals, contractors and consultants on risk and insurance. Insurance industry clients trust his policy wording and interpretation.
