Ian A. Robertson
Ian A. Robertson is a Barrister specialising in animal law. He originally practiced for many years as a clinical veterinarian and then added a law degree with the specific objective of working as an animal law specialist. He spent over a decade working in animal welfare compliance and enforcement as a prosecutor for the Ministry for Primary Industries in New Zealand and then as the Statewide Specialist in Victoria, Australia. His current work involves litigation, education and working as a specialist advisor across Australasia, the UK and Europe. He is the Principal of the law firm Guardianz Animal Law (www.guardianz.com) and Co-Founder of the Sentient Animal Law Foundation (www.sentientanimallaw.org).
Ngaio Beausoleil
Ngaio is Associate Professor in Applied Ethology and Animal Welfare Science and Co-Director of the Massey University Animal Welfare Science and Bioethics Centre in the School of Veterinary Science, New Zealand. Her research employs behavioural and physiological methods to investigate various aspects of animal welfare in both domestic and wild animal species. Ngaio teaches veterinary and animal science students and advises government and various animal industries on matters relating to animal welfare and ethics.
Mike Shallcrass
Michael is the Senior Veterinary Manager within Fonterra’s On-Farm Excellence Animals team. This team focuses on managing animal health and welfare on Fonterra farms, and identifying and encouraging the adoption of good farming practices. Michael oversees Fonterra’s Mastitis Support Programme, with a network of veterinarians around the country who have received additional training in milk quality investigations. Before joining Fonterra, Michael was in clinical practice for twelve years, with a strong focus on mastitis management and bull fertility.
