Bill Singleton
Bill Singleton is an IT/IP partner at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers in Brisbane and head of the firm's commercial practice group. Bill specialises in advising government and corporate organisations on legal aspects of cloud technology, privacy and data security, social marketing, procurement of ICT products and services, and digital commercialisation. Bill heads one of the largest teams in Brisbane appointed to the State government legal panel to advise on IT/IP matters and in particular IT procurement. Work highlights over the past six months include advising Queensland Health on two of the largest IT procurements in the State and advising a multinational corporation on the largest rollout of Microsoft Dynamics AX in the world this financial year. Bill also acted in the ground breaking indigenous intellectual property rights challenge to the registration of the Yugumbeh word 'Borobi' as the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games mascot. Bill is regularly included in Doyles, Guide, Best Lawyers and Asia Pacific Legal 500 as a leading IP/IT lawyer.
Nicole Murdoch
Nicole is the Principal of EAGLEGATE Lawyers and a recommended Lawyer in the 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2018 listing of Leading Queensland Intellectual Property Lawyers - Doyles Guide. As a qualified Lawyer, Electrical Engineer and Trade Marks Attorney, Nicole's qualifications and practical experience allow her to fully comprehend the nexus of the law, technology and business to provide advice to her clients - which is both commercially sensible and technically practical. Nicole's legal experience includes Intellectual Property litigation including, trade mark, patent, copyright and domain name disputes and associated misleading and deceptive conduct, confidential information and passing off disputes. She also acts in Information Theft cases to prepare clients for data breaches, assists upon a breach, gives advice in respect of mandatory data breach notifications and prosecutes insider threats.
Isabelle Guyot
Isabelle is a Managing Associate in our Technology, Media and Telecommunications team and has significant experience advising on data and privacy, telecommunications and procurement matters. Isabelle specialises in providing data and privacy advice to corporate clients across a range of sectors including financial services, telecommunications and energy. She has advised on OAIC inquiries and investigations, data breach response, privacy compliance, data commercialisation projects and has assisted clients in developing data governance programs. In addition, Isabelle has significant experience in IT, telecoms and business process procurement and outsourcing arrangements, as well as corporate transactions in the technology and telecommunications sectors. Isabelle has a broad regulatory practice, including advising on various telecommunications matters.
Sophie Peach
Sophie Peach is an Associate in our Technology, Media and Telecommunications team and has experience advising corporate and government clients on a wide variety of general commercial, technology and data related matters. Sophie has significant experience advising corporate clients across a range of sectors on data breach response and preparedness , privacy compliance and data governance programs.
Steven Klimt
Steven has been practising in the retail banking and financial services area for over 30 years. His practice covers documentation, procedures, forms and systems, and financial services regulatory issues including consumer credit, anti-money laundering. payment systems and privacy.. His clients include many of Australia's leading financial institutions, Fintechs and finance companies. Steven is a contributing author to the CCH Australian Consumer Credit Law Reporter. He has been ranked in Best Lawyers Australia in Banking and Financial Services and Regulatory Practice for many years.
Nicole Mazurek
Nicole is a senior lawyer practising in privacy and data protection law, financial services regulation and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing law. She is qualified to practise in New South Wales, Australia and England and Wales, United Kingdom. She is registered on the Register of Practitioners in the High Court of Australia. Previously, she worked in Moscow, Russia as an associate at Clifford Chance on multi-jurisdictional banking transactions including drafting and negotiating bilateral and syndicated facility agreements, sovereign loans, inter-company loans, loan-to-share convertible loan agreements, security documents and guarantees. During this time she was mentored by Mr John Hamilton, the English law consultant in Clifford Chance’s Moscow office and a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Business Research at the University of Cambridge. She has also completed overseas internships at DLA Piper and Clifford Chance in Warsaw, Poland, and worked on a short-term contract basis as a litigation assistant for barrister Rashelle Seiden SC at Ground Floor Wentworth Chambers in Sydney on a tax matter. Prior to completing the Juris Doctor, she worked as a research assistant to Professor Ross Buckley at the University of New South Wales on issues relating to global financial regulation.

Julie Cheeseman
Julie is a partner in our Sydney office, where she specialise in media and technology disputes and advice. Julie has over 15 years' experience in managing IT&T and media disputes across a range of jurisdictions and forums. She enjoys working closely with her clients to devise and implement strategic and effective approaches to case formulation, presentation and resolution. Her technology dispute experience covers a variety of technologies and complex implementations including billing systems, inventory management systems, customer management systems, e-Health systems and satellite and cable transmission networks. She analyses complex IT supply contracts and gives detailed written advice on liability and remedies arising under contract and the common law. She also manages disputes for media organisations such as defamation, copyright, contempt and suppression order matters. She regularly provides pre-publication advice to editors, journalists and producers in relation to print, digital and film publications.In addition to her disputes practice, she advises on public and private sector clients with respect to Australia's privacy and data breach legislation. She also has a keen interest in assisting clients with internal and regulatory investigations.
Ray Marshall
Ray practises in the areas of intellectual property and information technology, including IP protection and dispute resolution, ICT procurement, and technology and internet legal issues. He has advised both vendors and customers of IP and IT, including IP protection, enforcement and commercialisation for research entities and new businesses, and ICT supply and procurement strategy for software companies and sophisticated buyers including both private and government entities.
