Kirsty Ruddock
Kirsty is an experienced climate lawyer and litigator, having been involved in representing and advising clients on a range of environmental law issues. She also has considerable experience in regulatory investigations, prosecutions and civil enforcement cases, particularly in the environmental and consumer law area. She has recently worked in senior Government enforcement roles, including as the Director of the Water Enforcement Taskforce with the NSW Natural Access Resources Regulator (NRAR), Director of Compliance and Investigations at the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) and Director of Enforcement Group (NSW) for Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. She previously worked as Principal Solicitor at EDO NSW and EDO NQ where she worked on a number of important early climate law cases. She also worked early in her career at the Australian Government Solicitor as well as in Attorney-General’s Department in Samoa and the Public Solicitor’s Office in Solomon Islands.
Ilona Millar
Ilona specialises in Climate Change and Sustainability and previously headed the climate change group of a global law firm. She has worked for over 20 years on climate law and finance, including the development of law and policy and its implementation by both governments and the private sector. This experience extends to complex multi-jurisdictional transactions as well as the development of innovative responses to climate change and sustainability problems. Ilona has worked extensively on the development of carbon contracts, carbon funds and carbon transactions in both the compliance and voluntary markets. Ilona's experience also extends to all aspects of environmental law and policy. Ilona is listed among the best lawyers for Climate Change and Environmental Law by Best Lawyers Australia, featuring in the Australian Financial Review. Ilona sits on the board of the NSW Natural Resources Access Regulator, which oversees compliance with water legislation in NSW and is a former Commissioner on the NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC), which has a role in advising on and determining certain State significant developments.
Lloyd Chater
Lloyd advises various multinational companies on a diverse range of commercial matters, with a particular emphasis and understanding of theenergy and resources sectors. For more than 20 years Lloyd has also advised on significant projects within the engineering and mining sectors, including mining construction projects, energy infrastructure projects, mergers & acquisitions, tendering, consortia and joint ventures, mining projects, farm-in agreements, gas supply agreements, gas transport projects. Lloyd advises across both the public and private sectors and has extensive experience in the use and creation of both bespoke and standard form construction and professional consulting contracts, and in-depth practical knowledge of construction law and infrastructure development, EPC, EPCM contracts, incentive structures and alliance agreements. He has acted for employers, contractors and consultants (both local and international) on projects, disputes and other matters in connection with energy, mining and process plant projects. Lloyd is also admitted as an Attorney and Notary Public in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Adela Smith
Adela’s practice focuses on advising borrowers, sponsors and lenders on infrastructure & energy, acquisition and general finance transactions. Adela has a particular focus on financings in the renewable energy sector. Adela’s experience includes advising Tilt Renewables on numerous projects including the Snowtown 2 Wind Farm, the Waipipi Wind Farm and the Dundonnell Wind Farm, and the lenders on the funding for construction of the Clare Solar Farm.
Ben Fuller
Ben’s specialisation includes advising on all aspects of environmental impact assessment and approvals strategy, planning and environment law advice and litigation, remediation and development of contaminated land, climate change and corporate environmental due diligence. Ben advises corporate and government clients on the development of complex projects in a wide variety of industry sectors across Australia.
Jeremy Jose
Jeremy has over 15 years’ experience in the areas of competition and consumer law and market regulation, gained from more than four years at Gilbert + Tobin and through his past employment for over 9 years in a number of roles with the ACCC. Since joining Gilbert + Tobin in 2016, Jeremy has advised clients in relation to a range of high profile and important matters relating to electricity, gas, water and infrastructure regulation
