Patricia Monemvasitis
Over 30 years, Patricia Monemvasitis has practised as a commercial and property lawyer. With combined degrees in accounting, finance and law, she has helped build Carroll & O'Dea Lawyers' business practice since she joined the firm in 2004. Patricia advises a diverse range of clients, including major corporations, small to medium sized enterprises, property developers, landlords, not-for-profit organisations and schools. Patricia helps her clients with their overall business asset restructures, as well as business asset acquisitions and sales. She has been involved in all stages of transactions, including contract drafting and negotiation and due diligence reporting. She has extensive experience in managing intellectual property issues arising during acquisitions and sales of businesses, amalgamations, restructures, collaborations and joint ventures
Cameron Steele
Cameron leads the Tax team at Dentons Australia. He supports his clients with thorough and clear advice and guidance on taxation strategies. With immense experience in taxation law, Cameron's diligent approach helps his clients through complex and ever-changing issues in goods and services tax (GST), stamp duty, land tax, payroll tax, the taxation of property-related transactions and the tax implications of cross-border transactions. Cameron has a particular focus on GST and on the stamp duty implications of business and property transactions across all Australian jurisdictions. His experience includes investment structures for major commercial and residential property developments; domestic and global merger and acquisition transactions, and GST and other taxation issues for financial institutions.
Elly Ashley
Elly specialises in property development including advising in relation to strata and community schemes, preparing and developing appropriate governance title and subdivision structures and drafting master off-the-plan sales contracts and coordinating the sales process. Elly’s expertise includes acting for a number of major property developers to assist with residential and mixed-use development projects by advising in relation to the establishment of a strata scheme or community scheme, conversion and termination of strata schemes, compliance with the strata scheme and community scheme laws, drafting and negotiating section 88B instruments, by-laws and management statements for both strata and community schemes, site due diligence and acquisitions including acquisitions of crown land and rural land, Foreign Investment Review Board approval and regulations, finance due diligence and drafting off-the-plan contracts and co-ordinating the sales process.
Christopher Conolly
Christopher Conolly is a partner in at HWL Ebsworth and has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial property law including agreements for lease, project development agreements, subdivisions and options. As an accredited specialist in property law Christopher regularly advises on complex property transactions such as in leasehold transactions, contaminated land, compulsory acquisitions, public positive covenants and planning agreements. His clients include government departments and authorities, aged care providers, urban and regional developers and corporations. Christopher is the author of the 'Options' section of Practical Legal Guidance by LexisNexis and, with Gary Newton, "Land Acquisitions" 7th Edition 2017.
Mike Devitt
Mike Devitt was admitted as a solicitor in 1972 and has been an accredited specialist in property law since 1994. He worked in private practice until 2009 and from 2009 to 2014 was a lecturer at the University of Wollongong in the PLT course in property and commercial law. Mike is currently Member of the Law Society Property Law Committee undertakes locum work and is a regular presenter for Lawcover.
Tom Davie
Tom is one of Sydney’s most experienced and respected construction law barristers. He is the author of the Annotated Home Building Act and a co-author of Understanding Construction Law. He regards building and construction law as a branch of commercial law. Before coming to the bar in 1998 Tom practiced as a solicitor and partner involved in building and construction, commercial, and planning law at major legal practices across three jurisdictions.
Robert Schneider
Robert Schneider is a consultant at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers. He holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Sydney and has been practising as a solicitor in New South Wales for the past 44 years. Over this time, he has amassed extensive experience in commercial litigation. He has a special interest in land related litigation, and has acted for both landlords and tenants to commercial and retail leases and vendors and purchasers to transactions for the sale of commercial and residential property in proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the District Court of New South Wales, the Local Court of New South Wales and the New South Wales Civil & Administrative Tribunal (and its predecessor, the Administrative Decisions Tribunal). Robert has also acted for both landlords and tenants in mediations of lease disputes, including retail tenancy disputes under the Retail Leases Act 1994.
John Sears
John Sears is passionate about property research, with nearly 30 years' experience in property and financial markets in both Australia and across the globe. In February 2016, John joined Cushman and Wakefield's Australian Research Team as National Director, Research. John's focus at Cushman is to support the business and clients with economic and market analyisis that helps to identify and exploit the important trends and themes in Australian commercial real estate. John's roles have included Head of Research at Vicinity Centres, Head of Property Research at Colonial First State Global Asset Management, Director, Global Capital Markets Research at Jones Lang LaSalle as well as 10 years in the AMP Capital Investors Investment Strategy and Economics Team.
Ingrid King
Ingrid was admitted to the legal profession in 1994, she was then admitted as a Barrister in NSW in 2012. She practises in commercial, public and environmental litigation. She regularly appears for companies, insolvency practitioners, directors and government entities in State and Federal courts. Ingrid has a strong background in corporate law (including insolvency), regulatory law, and statutory interpretation. In addition, she appears in judicial review proceedings in the Federal Court. While frequently led by senior counsel, Ingrid also appears unled, including at an appellate level. Ingrid also appears (both led and unled) at inquiries and Royal Commissions and has taught Securities Regulation at UTS since 2011. Prior to coming to the Bar, Ingrid worked in compliance in the financial markets, as a litigation solicitor and as in-house counsel. She is an ARITA member and is the NSW Chair, Insolvency and Restructuring Committee of the Law Council of Australia.
Chris Stomo
Chris Stomo is a barrister working out of Windeyer Chambers in Sydney. He started a career as a microbiologist but found his calling in law and has been a lawyer for the last 30 years, with the last 25 years at the New South Wales bar in Sydney. Most of his work is now in commercial, property, construction intellectual property, estates and company matters. Chris is a qualified mediator and this brings on a number of challengers in trying to find a solution to what looks at first insoluble. Every problem has a solution.
