George Golvan QC
George is a Queen's Counsel who holds degrees in Law and Jurisprudence from Monash University and the degree of Juris Doctor from Arizona State University. Mr Golvan practices in the areas of Building and Construction Law, Commercial Arbitration, Commercial Tenancy, Banking and Insurance, and general Commercial and Corporate Law. Mr Golvan has also actively practised mediation and arbitration for over twenty-five years, and has been involved in numerous substantial commercial and construction matters as counsel, mediator and arbitrator, specialising in complex building and engineering disputes. Mr Golvan has conducted over 1,500 Commercial, Construction and Building Dispute Mediations. He has also acted as a trainer for Bond University Mediation Workshops.
Nicholas Gallina
Nick is a qualified engineer with a practice in technology, engineering and construction disputes. He appears (as sole counsel as well as junior counsel) in trial and interlocutory hearings in all Victorian jurisdictions. Before joining the Bar, he was a Senior Associate at Allens, prior to which he was a Principal Engineer at AECOM, working on large scale heavy industrial, mining and commercial projects. As a qualified engineer, he has an intimate knowledge of engineering projects, having been closely involved in them from feasibility and design through to construction and commissioning.
Eric Riegler
Eric completed articles with Hall and Thompson (Maurice Blackburn) in 1993, coming to the law late after having run numerous businesses. Eric's work while at Hall and Thompson mainly concerned the buying and selling of businesses, many of which included retail premises or licensed premises. In 1996, Eric left Hall and Thompson and moved to Minter Ellison, working within the Building and Construction Practice Group. In January 2018, Eric was appointed Chairperson of the Building Appeals Board. He holds this role in conjunction with his responsibilities as a member of VCAT and Deputy Head of the Building and Property List. In November 2018, Eric was appointed as a Deputy President of VCAT.
Ben McLeod
Ben has extensive experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters acting for a variety of participants in the construction, engineering and infrastructure industries, including contractors, principals, subcontractors, consultants and financiers. Ben has experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating tender documentation and construction and related contracts, as well as contract administration and risk mitigation strategies during the project delivery phase. He has particular expertise in the strategic management and resolution of complex disputes, including security of payment matters, litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
St John Frawley
St John has over 26 years' experience, gained in New South Wales and Victoria, as a construction, engineering and infrastructure lawyer acting for a diverse range of institutional and private commercial clients in respect of tenders, project documentation, project risk management and the management and resolution of disputes. St John has recently been named in Who's Who Legal Australia and Who's Who Legal International: Construction for his expertise in Construction law (2017 - 2019). St John is an official contributor to leading industry text, Construction Law in Australia (Third Edition), 2011 by Bailey and Bell.
