Philip Crawford
Mr Philip Crawford was appointed as Chairperson of the Authority on 8 June 2016 after being appointed as a member on 17 March 2016. Philip has practiced law as a solicitor in Sydney for over 40 years. Over many years he has been recognized by his peers and by independent researchers as a leading practitioner in the fields of Litigation, Insolvency and Restructuring, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Philip was Chairman of Partners of Sydney law firm Henry Davis York from 2010 until 2015. He retired as a partner of that firm in 2016. For the last three years Philip has conducted a mediation practice on his own account, and is now recognised as one of Sydney’s leading mediators.
Tony Hatzis
Tony Hatzis has practised continuously for more than 25 years. Until Tony and Grant Cusack formed Hatzis Cusack in 2012, Tony enjoyed an outstanding career as a specialist barrister in the field of liquor licensing and gaming law. He has delivered many seminars on liquor and gaming law. Tony has appeared in many test cases involving liquor, gaming and security industry laws. For example, Tony appeared for the successful tenants in the "Jabetin" litigation, which settled the ownership of gaming machine entitlement rights. He also acted for Blacktown Workers Club, in their successful test case against the Department of Health, over that Club's smoking/gaming room.
Richard Lee
Richard Lee is a Director of the Education, Capability & Communications Branch at AUSTRAC. Richard has been with AUSTRAC in regulatory leadership roles for over 10 years and has regulatory and law enforcement experience through prior roles with the Australian Securities & Investments Commission, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Australian Federal Police. In his role he oversees AUSTRAC’s education and outreach function which involves providing support and guidance to reporting entities to help them build their capability in meeting AML/CTF obligations and managing ML/TF risk.
Leigh Barrett
Leigh is one of Australia's most sought after responsible gambling strategists and recognised expert in regulatory compliance for the gaming and hospitality industry. With a wide range of pertinent qualifications and a strong background in social work, social policy and government regulation, he brings more than 20 years experience to the field of problem gambling, responsible gambling and liquor licensing. He regularly attends key industry forums, think tanks and conferences all around the world as a highly respected guest speaker and working party group co-ordinator.
John Green
As the Director of Liquor & Policing with AHA NSW, John’s responsibilities include stakeholder and membership engagement, advocacy, building relationships between police and licensees plus the development of evidence based strategies on liquor, policing and other issues impacting the hotel industry. He represents on local and State government and agency committees/working groups dealing with liquor accords, Sydney nightlife, licensing, armed robberies and nationally, on counter terrorism issues. He is the association’s media spokesperson.
Anthony Trimarchi
Anthony Trimarchi is the Executive Manager of Policy & Government for ClubsNSW and Clubs Australia. He has been with the Association for more than eight years, and has previously worked in the minerals industry and the public service. Anthony and his team are responsible for policy, industry advice, advocacy and government relations across a wide range of areas affecting clubs.
Dimitri Argeres
Dimitri Argeres is the Director of Compliance at Liquor & Gaming NSW, with responsibility for the agency’s front-line inspectorate, enforcement, assurance and integrity and complaint assessment functions. Most recently this has included coordinating the agency’s enforcement approach to COVID-19 safety compliance. In previous roles, Dimitri has been responsible for managing Liquor & Gaming NSW’s investigative and complaint handling, triage and assessment functions. Prior to this, Dimitri coordinated operational deployments of inspectors across NSW and coordinated administrative sanctions and enforcement remedies, including the NSW Government’s ‘Three Strikes’ scheme for licensed premises and the ‘Declared Premises Scheme’ for violent venues. Dimitri has previously held regulatory or investigative roles at the Australian Communications & Media Authority, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission and the Australian Taxation Office.
Pauline Adraskelas
Pauline is a Special Counsel at Addisons where she provides commercial advice to clients with respect to all aspects of town planning, environmental and liquor laws. Her practice includes advising developers, statutory authorities and government in relation to environmental and planning approvals at the Commonwealth, State and Local government levels on projects ranging from infrastructure, commercial, industrial and residential development; conducting planning and liquor due diligence on behalf of purchasers and financiers; assisting applicants to obtain liquor licences, planning and environmental approvals; advising on issues relating to contaminated land, pollution and environmental compliance issues; and litigation with respect to merit appeals, judicial review proceedings, civil enforcement, criminal prosecutions and the compulsory acquisition of land.
The Honourable Anthony Whealy QC
The Honourable Anthony Whealy QC is held in high esteem as a lawyer and Judicial officer as is demonstrated by his many and varied appointments. He is also a sought-after mediator. Some of his former appointments include Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW and Judge of the NSW Court of Appeal; Chair of COAG’s Committee on Counter-Terrorism Laws; Acting Judge of Appeal (WA); Assistant Commissioner of ICAC, and Deputy Chair of the NSW Sentencing Council. Currently, he holds the positions of Chair, Management Committee NSW Crime Commission; Chair, Centre for Public Integrity and Chair, Bach Akademie Australia
