Alice Spizzo
Alice Spizzo is a Director at Landerer & Company in the Property Group specialising in Planning & Environmental Law. Alice has extensive experience in government and the development industry as a lawyer, executive and senior ministerial advisor including Chief-of-Staff and Executive Director at the then NSW Department of Planning responsible for policy and legislative reform. Alice provides advice to a variety of business and government clients and education institutions on planning and environmental approvals and licences, issues management, litigation (including prosecution work), governance and risk.
Aaron Gadiel
Aaron is a well-known planning and environment law specialist - with more than 20 years' experience in land use planning and development regulation. Aaron provides practical advice to facilitate urban development and to overcome red tape. He is also an experienced litigator - representing property developers and landowners in Land and Environment Court proceedings on a daily basis. Aaron regularly negotiates major planning agreements with local councils and state government agencies. Aaron advises and represents property developers, certifying authorities and public sector organisations. Aaron was a member of the Law Society’s Environmental Planning and Development Committee from 2009 to 2016.
Matthew Baird
Matthew BAIRD has over 30 years’ experience in environmental and planning law in Australia and in Asia. He was called to the NSW Bar in 1991. Matthew has consulted on environmental law issues for a number of organizations including the Asian Development Bank, International Finance Corporation, Vermont Law School, United Nations Development Program, UN Environment, Institute for Global Environmental Studies, Mekong Partnership on the Environment, and EarthRights International. He currently advises both the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (Myanmar) and the Ministry of Environment (Cambodia). In September 2016, he was appointed as Visiting Scholar of the Myanmar Environmental Governance Program of Vermont Law School. Matthew was Chair of the Environment and Planning Law Group of the Law Council of Australia from 2008-2012.
Dr Judith Preston
Dr Judith Preston is a solicitor who has been admitted to practice in New South Wales and the Northern Territory, since 1982. Judith commenced work in 1982 with the Northern Land Council (NLC) primarily representing Aboriginal Traditional Owners in land claims in the Northern Territory and related to other legal needs of Aboriginal communities in the NLC jurisdiction. She was instrumental in establishing the first public interest environmental law centre, the Environmental Defender’s Office (EDO), in NSW in 1984-85. Judith then worked in a number of leading legal practices including Baker & McKenzie and DLA Piper undertaking a range of commercial matters which included litigation. For the last fourteen years she has taught in a range of education institutions from primary to tertiary levels.
Alyce Kliese
With her engineering background and experience as a Solicitor, Alyce brings a valuable perspective to the administrative, local government, planning and environmental law sectors. In her previous roles as a civil engineer, Alyce was responsible for assessing and determining Development Applications, Construction Certificates, Subdivision Certificates, Strata Certificates and Roads Act consents. During this time she also acted as a principal certifier for large-scale civil and infrastructure projects. Alyce has subsequently pursued a life in law. She primarily practices in the Land and Environment Court and also has experience in other Courts and Tribunals including the Local, District and Supreme Courts and NCAT.
Breellen Warry
Breellen Warry is a Partner within the Planning, Property and Development team at Holding Redlich and leads the planning and environmental practice in Sydney. Breellen advises both private and public sector clients across various industries on a wide range of planning, environment and government matters. Breellen has extensive experience advising NSW State government and local councils on planning and environmental law and has worked both within and for government agencies in NSW and in the UK.
Dr David Robertson
Dr. David Robertson, has over 25 years of ecology experience since obtaining his doctorate at Melbourne University in 1985. He is a specialist ecologist with expertise in both botany and zoology and has worked as an ecological consultant since 1993. He has extensive experience in court-related work including preparation of Statements of Evidence and individual and joint experts’ reports; contribution to Statements of Facts and Contentions; presenting evidence as an Expert Witness in the Land and Environment Court; attendance at court site meetings; and desktop assessments and various research tasks.
