Darius Hii, Director, Chat Legal
Darius Hii is an estate planning and tax lawyer, who works alongside private clients and advisors to provide comprehensive structuring advice. The core of his work revolves around planning today for a headache free tomorrow and relates to personal and business succession planning. This often involves preparing holistic estate plans and ensuring they are structured to complement a client's succession planning and asset protection intentions, as well as implementing tax effective business succession and restructuring strategies. He has developed a deep interest in trusts and taxation which complements his area of practice, and has spent time involved with payroll and land tax disputes with the Office of State Revenue. He founded Chat Legal Pty Ltd to provide legal services to busy individuals and families outside office hours and at a location convenient to them.
Stuart Leonard, Legal Director, Swan Legal
Stuart Leonard is a commercial lawyer with over 25 years state tax experience in all Australian jurisdictions. His skills include advice, obtaining regulatory approvals, conducting due diligence reviews, dispute resolution, state tax modelling and compliance management. He has advised on many major transactions, and is able to provide quality, timely and practical assistance on state tax matters to a range of clients, including other professional service providers.
Adrian Cartland, Principal, Cartland Law
A taxation and commercial lawyer, Adrian Cartland specialises in devising novel solutions to complex trust, equity, partnership and contract law issues and transactions. He is experienced in all the State taxes, particularly stamp duty and land tax, and advises across the full range of Federal taxes including Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and GST, as well as Not-for-Profit tax concessions. Adrian prepares high level tax and commercial documentation for complex structures and transactions as well as dealing with revenue authorities and other parties about those structures and transactions. Where required, he pursues taxation disputes to higher authorities. He also advises on superannuation and general commercial agreements.
Angela Melick, Founding Partner, Nuwaru
Up until 2012 Angela Melick was an indirect tax partner with PwC specialising in stamp duty and other state taxes, after which time she established her own state taxes consulting business. With over 25 years advising on state taxes Australia-wide, Angela currently provides stamp duty, land tax and payroll tax advice and compliance services Australia-wide, in many cases to small and medium sized professional service firms, in relation to a wide range of matters including, for stamp duty, mergers and demergers; restructures; business, asset and equity acquisitions; asset and company reorganisations; landholder duty; insurance duty; real property, trust, joint venture and partnership transactions; property development transactions; SMSF duty issues; applying for and obtaining private rulings; and the structuring of transactions from a stamp duty perspective. Angela is a member of NSW Division of Property Council of Australia State Tax Committee; and a member of the Joint Accounting Bodies/Office of State Revenue State Taxes Liaison Committee which meet regularly with the NSW Commissioner of State Revenue and Revenue NSW. As well as being a Chartered Accountant, she is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW.
